Example service – Detect flooding over a large area

A demonstration service for flood detection was developed during the early stage of EOPORT based on big data architecture using Sentinel-1 data in combination with classic in-situ data sources (level measurements, rain radar forecasts). The change detection service was built on the requirements of insurance companies, which rely on up-to-date information on the location, intensity and duration of floods for a quick response to flood-related damage events. For example, information on the frequency and duration of the floods support the assessment of flood risks.
